Unlocking the Trialmaster: How to Farm the Infamous Cowardly Fate

To unlock the Trialmaster and fight the infamous boss in Path of Exile 2, you need to complete the Trial of Chaos, which is a challenging 10-floor Inscribed Ultimatum. The key to entering the Trialmaster’s lair is to collect three special “Fate” items: the Deadly Fate, Cowardly Fate, and Victorious Fate.

How to Farm the Cowardly Fate (and other Fate fragments)

The three Fate fragments are dropped randomly by the boss at the end of the 10th trial in the Trial of Chaos.

Each time you complete the full 10-floor Inscribed Ultimatum and defeat the boss, you will get one random Fate fragment.

To collect all three (including Cowardly Fate), you must repeatedly complete the Trial of Chaos until all three Fate fragments drop. This means farming the full 10-trial Ultimatum multiple times.

These Fate fragments can also be purchased on the Currency Exchange, but farming them yourself avoids spending significant currency.

Requirements and Tips for Farming the Trial of Chaos

The Inscribed Ultimatum required to access the Trials should be at least level 75+ to have the maximum 10 floors needed to reach the boss.

The Trial of Chaos is challenging, so having a high-damage, defensive build is essential. The Trialmaster boss has massive life (around 11 million) and strong resistances.

It’s recommended to bring defensive layers, strong damage output, and utility items like a Silver Charm to counter specific Trialmaster mechanics such as slow effects.

Watch for attack telegraphs with voice lines to avoid powerful attacks during the fight.

Be prepared to complete the full 10-trial Ultimatum repeatedly to farm all three Fates.

Unlocking the Ascendancy

After collecting all three Fate fragments (Deadly, Cowardly, and Victorious) and using them to open the door at the end of the 10-trial Ultimatum, you face the Trialmaster boss.

Defeating the Trialmaster rewards you with the unlock of your 4th Ascendancy Point, a major progression milestone.

Farming Steps

Obtain or reroll an Inscribed Ultimatum of level 75 or higher with 10 floors.

Complete the full 10-floor Trial of Chaos, defeating the boss each time.

Collect the randomly dropped Fate fragment per run; keep farming until you have Deadly Fate, Cowardly Fate, and Victorious Fate.
